The Beatles Mono Mixes CD Box Set: The 1960s Mono Mixes On CD For The First Time Ever
It was not until around 1968 that The Beatles started to take their stereo mixes seriously. Up until that time the mono mixes were what the band spent most of their time working on because mono was considered the "standard." It was the way most people listened to music. While stereo was a new "experimental" thing that wasn't given a lot of thought at that time.
These original mono mixes are finally being released on CD (for the first time ever) on 9/9/9. Many Beatles fans are excited to hear these mono mixes because they could be considered to be the "real" versions of these classic albums, after all they are the mixes that the band worked on the most.
On 9/9/9 The Beatles Mono Box Set will be released and it will include The Beatles first 10 studio albums with their original mono mixes. It will also include Help! and Rubber Soul in their original stereo mix (the first time this original stereo mix will be heard on CD.) Along with all of these albums, there's also a compilation titled Mono Masters which contains all of The Beatles non-album songs mixed in mono.
The Beatles last three albums (Yellow Submarine, Let It Be, and Abbey Road) are not in the mono box set because they were never mixed in mono.
This Box Set is, in a way, all about preserving the original sound of The Beatles 1960s releases and that's why the original stereo mixes of Help! & Rubber Soul are included. These are the stereo mixes that were released on LP in 1965 but were then lost to history when new stereo mixes were made for the CD releases in the 1987.
Prior to the release of this new Beatles Mono Box Set it would have been very difficult to hear these original stereo mixes of Help! and Rubber Soul because they could only be heard on the original vinyl LPs released in 1965. These are hard to get your hands on these days. And plus, most people don't have a record player anyway!
So what about the Mono Masters compilation? It's the mono version of it's stereo counterpart, Past Masters. It contains all of The Beatles non-album tracks in their original mono mixes.
"Hey Jude," "Paperback Writer," & "Day Tripper" are among the many Beatles hits included in mono in the Mono Masters set. Interesting B-sides like "Rain," "This Boy," & "Yes It Is" are on it too.
The Beatles Mono Box Set is the only place you can find these mono versions of The Beatles albums because they are not being sold separately.
